HARVARD meets MPHO DAGADA!

The last quarter of the year has started. The best news is that the call has been answered for change and we are geared up for improvement and success.

I had the honour of delivering a Keynote for Harvard Alumni Africa at Deloitte. Expected to give insights only, I flipped the script, and asked the Harvard alumni for their opinions, ideas and complaints with regards to the 4th Industrial Revolution in South Africa. The opinions and suggestions ranged from Education, to internet connectivity and even one saying, ”maybe we shouldn’t be focusing on 4IR yet as a country.”

One thing I have learnt from being in Government, is that you can not move the country forward without listening to its people. The complaints, insults, suggestions, opinions, and constructive criticism.

We will be launching an online platform, to collect information from the citizens concerning the 4th Industrial Revolution, everyone’s opinion, ideas and suggestions matter. This platform will also inform the public of the work we are doing as the Presidential Commission.

The time for Change is Now!

I recently heard the statements and announcements brought forward by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, and the contents of it were very pleasing and promising for the future of South Africa and Africa’s Youth at Large.

The department of basic education has developed the grade R-3 coding and robotic curriculum and the development of the grade 4-7 curriculum is at an advanced stage.

This was announced on the second day of the South African Democratic Teachers' Union's 9th national congress held at Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

“We will be trialling this curriculum in grade 3-7 starting from January next year. Our teachers are being trained in computer skills including new teaching areas such as robotics and coding amongst others,” Motshekga said.

Motshekga said the sector was ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. She said that she was also happy to announce that in recent years there were fewer children who are entering school late.

With these new advancements, we are laying the foundation for the prosperity of our Youth and helping to ensure the Global Competitiveness of Africa in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
